Diamond Education     Carat     Colour     Clarity     Cut

Because diamonds are so valuable, it’s essential to have a universal grading system for comparing their quality. In the 1940s and ’50s, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) developed the 4C's and the GIA International Diamond Grading System™ to objectively compare and evaluate diamonds. This is why we have chosen to explain the 4C's according to the specifications as provided by the GIA.

You may already know the 4 C's are Carat (Weight), Colour, Clarity and Cut. What we've tried to do is break down each of those components and offer up information to satisfy the novice all the way to the expert.
